During the process of creating my four portraits, I wanted to capture the essence of my personality and the artistic side of myself that I can portray. I really tried to focus on the artistic side when I took the pictures. I feel like the picture where I captured my most creative moment would have to be the picture where I am standing by the window, letting the light focus strictly one me. It makes it creative by the overall composition and how the natural light is just hitting me, making it have a creative look to it. It was difficult to have an artistic picture around the surroundings of school. Creativity played an important role in my photos because without creativity, there really isn’t much then. It made my photos better than if I weren’t to have any kind of creativity within it.
The contrast, values, and the emphasis of the photos were done well, in my opinion. Three out of four photos were set up specifically to how I wanted it. The picture with my prop was a “happy accident”, I tried out the composition I wanted to go for, but it just didn’t come out the way I had expected, so from then on I just randomly posed for the camera and in the end the pictures that were taken came out better than when it was originally planned. I tried to look for areas where there was great lighting and good contrasts to strengthen my photos a little more. What weakened my photos was the background in certain pictures, I feel like there could have been a better place to photograph at, but it seemed pretty difficult knowing that all the surroundings around me were all familiar school settings. In my opinion, I feel the picture with the strongest composition would have to be the photo by the fence because it has strong sets of values and the way I was placed was in one of the rule of thirds and it has the pole in the middle of the fence creating the line element and pulls in the viewers eyes to the pole onto me, which is what I was going for. I would change the composition of my prop photo because it seems like it was a great idea but the background was what weakened it.
After viewing my pictures, I felt that some of them were a bit too dark but overall I was pretty satisfied with the outcome of them. I was happy that none of my pictures came out blurry or pixilated. I tried my best to use the camera techniques we learned about, the one thing that helped me out the best would be changing the shutter speed mode. The pictures that I had developed had really good craftsmanship, in the end came out better than I had expected.
I was really satisfied with the overall outcome of the photos I had taken. I feel like I did well on the contrast and values of my photos. I would probably have taken the pictures in a better looking surrounding rather than at school just to get those better values and overall composition. My favorite photo would have to be my lighting and element pictures. The lighting picture is dark but yet the light just barely hits my front body creating dark shadows around me, which creates an artistic photo to me. I like the element photo as well because it’s totally different from my lighting photo. It is bright but yet still has good contrast and of course the pole brings the eyes toward me rather somewhere else. My least favorite would have to be the prop picture because I feel like the setting in the background was weak but yet the composition of my body and pose was good, but it would have been more successful if I had a different setting behind me. The outcomes of all four photographs were pretty successful to me; I feel like I did very well on this assignment and I’m proud of what I have accomplished.
